Restorative Discipline Matrix

Battle Born Youth ChalleNGe Academy follows the Elko County School District's Restorative Discipline Matrix, which outlines behavioral expectations, school policy violations, and progressive disciplinary responses. The matrix promotes accountability, consistency, and restorative practices while providing students and families with a clear understanding of school disciplinary procedures.

School Performance Plan

School Performance Plans (SPPs) are a component of a larger Continuous Improvement Process (CIP) that schools engage in throughout the school year. SPPs contain detailed information about practices and strategies being implemented at each school in Elko County School District. Each plan identifies goals and action steps designed to improve learning for all students.

Edmentum: Earn & Recover High School Credits

What is Edmentum?

Edmentum is an online educational platform that allows students to earn new high school credits and recover credits for courses they have not successfully completed. At Battle Born Youth ChalleNGe Academy (BBYCA), Edmentum supports individualized learning during the 5.5-month residential program.

How Does It Work?
  • Cadets are assigned courses based on their academic records, credit needs, and educational goals.
  • Cadets may take one Edmentum course at a time, but there is no set limit on the total number of courses they may complete during the residential program.
  • Once a cadet successfully completes a course, they may move on to their next assigned course.
  • Coursework includes online lessons, assignments, quizzes, and assessments.
  • Cadets progress through coursework independently, at their own pace, with academic staff available for support.A
  • cademic staff monitor grades, course completion, and academic progress.
Cost to Families

BBYCA covers the cost of Edmentum coursework. There is no cost to cadets or their families to participate in online credit recovery.

Our Goal: Help Nevada youth earn and recover as many high school credits as they can successfully complete during the residential program, allowing them to make meaningful progress toward graduation.

Credit completion depends on each cadet's individual effort, academic performance, and successful completion of assigned coursework. Credits are subject to applicable school district acceptance requirements.

HiSET

Nevada HiSET – High School Equivalency

What is the HiSET?

The High School Equivalency Test (HiSET) is a Nevada-approved assessment that provides eligible students with an alternative pathway to earning a Nevada Certificate of High School Equivalency.

The HiSET consists of five subject exams:

  • Language Arts – Reading
  • Language Arts – Writing
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Social Studies
Eligibility & Approval

The HiSET pathway is intended only for students who do not have enough high school credits to graduate on time with a traditional high school diploma. Participation is not automatically available to all cadets.

HiSET participation at Battle Born Youth ChalleNGe Academy (BBYCA) is available ONLY to students who meet Nevada's eligibility requirements AND have been approved by Elko County School District (ECSD). Eligibility and approval must be established before a cadet may participate in official HiSET testing.

How BBYCA Supports HiSET Students

For eligible and approved cadets, BBYCA provides:

  • Dedicated Study Time: Scheduled classroom time for cadets to independently prepare for their exams.
  • Transportation: Transportation to and from each scheduled HiSET testing appointment.
  • Transportation: Transportation to and from each scheduled HiSET testing appointment.
Testing Attempts & Student Responsibility

Nevada limits the number of times a student may  retake each HiSET subject exam. Cadets are responsible for using their available testing opportunities wisely and preparing adequately for each exam.

While BBYCA provides dedicated study time, transportation, and financial support, it is ultimately the cadet's responsibility to study, prepare, and successfully pass all required exams.

IMPORTANT: Participation in the HiSET pathway does not guarantee a passing score or the award of a high school equivalency credential. BBYCA does not guarantee that a cadet will pass any or all HiSET subject exams during the residential program. Success depends on the individual cadet's preparation, effort, and performance.

Eligibility, ECSD approval, and completion of the required exams are essential.

Academic Dishonesty

Academic Integrity & Dishonesty Policy

Battle Born Youth ChalleNGe Academy (BBYCA) maintains a zero-tolerance policy for academic dishonesty. All cadets are expected to complete their own coursework, assignments, quizzes, and examinations honestly and independently.

Academic dishonesty includes, but is not limited to:

  • Using Google Lens, image searches, or similar tools to obtain answers.
  • Using artificial intelligence (AI) platforms, including ChatGPT, to generate or obtain answers.
  • Copying answers or receiving unauthorized assistance from other cadets.Sharing answers, assignments, or testing information with other students.
  • Using unauthorized websites, applications, electronic devices, or outside resources.
  • Any other form of cheating, plagiarism, or misrepresentation of academic work.
  • Consequences of Academic Dishonesty

Academic dishonesty may result in serious consequences, including:

  • Permanent Removal from Edmentum: Cadets found engaging in academic dishonesty in online coursework will be permanently removed from Edmentum for the remainder of the program, resulting in the loss of their opportunity to earn or recover additional credits through online courses.
  • Failure of In-Person Coursework: Academic dishonesty in classroom-based courses may result in a failing grade and no academic credit awarded for the affected course.
  • Possible Program Dismissal: Academic dishonesty may result in additional disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal from BBYCA.

Academic success must be earned. BBYCA provides educational opportunities, resources, and support, but each cadet is responsible for completing their work honestly and demonstrating their own knowledge and abilities.

Participation in BBYCA does not guarantee the earning or recovery of academic credits. Failure to follow academic integrity requirements may jeopardize a cadet's educational progress and continued enrollment in the program.
